Lendo | Reimagining the Mortgage Experience for Canadian Brokers

Trampoline Lab

Overview

Lendo is a mortgage workflow and client application platform designed to modernize how Canadian mortgage brokers collect information, assess applications, collaborate internally, and prepare lender-ready files.

This project focused on transforming a fragmented, admin-heavy workflow into a streamlined digital experience that balances operational efficiency, compliance, and human-centered decision making.

  • My role focused on:

    UX Strategy

    User Research

    Product Thinking

    Information Architecture

    Workflow Design

    UX Writing

    Compliance-Aware Experience Design

The project was approached as both a workflow challenge and a behavioral design challenge. The objective was not simply to digitize mortgage applications, but to create a system that reflects how brokers actually think, analyze, and structure deals in real life.

  • The Industry Context

Mortgage brokers in Canada operate in an environment where:

    Compliance requirements continue to increase:

    • Lender guidelines evolve constantly
    • Applications require significant documentation and validation
    • Client expectations are increasingly shaped by modern digital experiences
    • Existing tools often feel fragmented and outdated

Although brokers rely heavily on platforms such as lender submission systems and CRMs, many still maintain parallel workflows through spreadsheets, manual notes, phone calls, PDFs, and inbox management.

This fragmentation creates several operational challenges:

    • Repeated data entry
    • Loss of contextual knowledge
    • Difficulty tracking conditions and follow-ups
    • Inconsistent client experiences
    • Increased administrative workload
    • High cognitive load for brokers

At the same time, not all brokers experience these problems in the same way.

The project therefore required a nuanced understanding of broker behavior, experience levels, motivations, and relationships with technology.

  • The Core Product Challenge

One of the largest strategic challenges during the design process was reconciling the needs of both personas simultaneously.

Experienced brokers value flexibility. Newer brokers value structure.

Too much rigidity alienates veterans. Too much flexibility overwhelms beginners.

The product therefore needed to support:

    • Multiple levels of operational maturity
    • Different mental models
    • Different relationships with technology
    • Different workflow expectations

This led to a key product philosophy:

The platform should adapt to the broker not force brokers to adapt to the platform.

  • Key Product Features

One of the defining principles behind the platform was avoiding “technology theater.”

The product was not designed to replace brokers.

    It was designed to:

    • Reduce repetitive administrative work
    • Organize complex information
    • Preserve contextual knowledge
    • Improve lender readiness
    • Support better client experiences

    The platform intentionally balances:

    • Automation and human judgment
    • Guidance and flexibility
    • Compliance and usability
    • Operational efficiency and relationship-driven workflows

Women's health at Every stage

For this project, we designed a landing page for a telehealth practice to introduce their new women’s health services. Before colors, visuals, and polish, we focused on layout, hierarchy, and the user journey to ensure every section had a purpose.

  • 1 —Real faces to create trust

    Key elements we worked on:

→ User research showed that featuring the physicians increased click-through rates and built stronger trust.

  • 2 — Supportive language

    Learning Asset:

We used reassuring terminology such as “trusted,” “care,” and supportive language to create a sense of comfort and credibility.ecisions that feel intentional, not cosmetic

  • 3 —Information hierarchy for guidance

    Learning Asset:

→ Clear information hierarchy to guide visitors through services and next steps.

  • 4 — Thoughtful CTA placement

    Learning Asset:

Strategic calls-to-action placed where users are most likely to engage.

  • 5 —Interface with sensitivity

→ A clean, welcoming interface aligned with the sensitivity of women’s health services.

  • 6 — Accessibility across devices

→ Mobile-friendly thinking to ensure accessibility across devices.
